As I am a frequent user on Linked In, I am also involved in various group discussions. I’ve recently read a thread concerning „social media”. Although I see the importance of this, I still need to read more in depth studies regarding this subject. If anyone can provide more info that is based on thorough researches, please feel free to post it here. You can also recommend books. Thanks

In recent weeks I met with companies to discuss B2B marketing options. I inquired about their understanding and knowledge of Social media and Blogosphere campaigns. The company responses were inconsistent and emphasized how difficult it is to explain the power of social media when one business is marketing to another. Value and implementation remains underappreciated and misunderstood. Many feel that this type of marketing does not relate to them, when in actuality social marketing is becoming one of the most effective ways to brand and achieve creditability online. Today companies are decreasing their traditional marketing dollars and spending more time and investment online. A recent survey by B2B Magazine revealed that over 48% of those surveyed were increasing their online marketing spending.
In a time when people are fed up with „marketing speak,” social media allows decision makers from companies to communicate and relate to one another.
A recent study revealed the following statistics:
• 84% Participate in Video
• 81% Participate in Blogs
• 78% Participate in Wikis
• 69% Participate in Social Networks
• 53% Participate in Podcasts
At a minimum, B2B businesses should at least be involved in communities and social networks where their customers already are. We should all be exploring opportunities to reach out to key influencers in our target markets, while optimizing our content and social media applications for syndication.
I know considering social media can feel somewhat daunting from a traditional marketing campaign, but it is not that difficult to be successful. inSegment can help you chose a few initiatives that will work well for your company and gain you step-by-step success until you are more comfortable with delving into social media applications.
Can you really afford to continue to dismiss social media as a marketing vehicle?
