This chosen flower rose on the Romanian land in the 1967 year. Since her childhood, she had been very close to God. When she got out of school she used to always go to Church. For this reason, she was scolded heavily by her father: „Where did you go? To Church again all day? to your popes? What did God give you?” And she didn’t say a word, but her tears invaded her eyes.
She was pious and stood in prayer for hours. She did not want to go to the high school graduation prom. Her class master asked her:” Come on Dana, come with us, too!” but she said: „I can’t, but I want you to know that I love you all very much, but I can’t come to the prom.. forgive me..”. She was very gentle and very kind to all. She used to help her colleagues to do their lessons; she was even spending her nights writing for them. She studied hard, both in high school and in college. She enjoyed working very much. All her clothes were made by her. She was the spiritual daughter of the Pious Father Sofian from Antim Monastery. When she was a student, she took care of a paralyzed old woman who was forgotten by everyone – mother Jane. The pious Daniela used to visit her daily: in the morning, before going to college and in the evening. There was a long road to her and she made a great effort. She washed her, looked after her, did her shopping. From her scholarship, she spared some money for mother Jane, too. She used to wash her clothes, read, sing for her. She brought so much joy to the old woman’s soul. She was very calm and merciful. You could see in her Father Sofian’s mildness. She has never been upset with anyone. She used to blame herself always and excused the others. Once, someone beat Daniela very hard, though she was not guilty. After she endured the beating, she bent to her knees and kissed the leg that beat her with so much wildness.
Certain people from her family tried to convince her to get married, but she said: „No, no. I want to stay with God.” „But you can be with God even if you’re married, too.” – she was told. „Yes, but if I get married, it means that I leave God a bit, and I can’t do this, I don’t want to. I want to give everything to God.”
She used to spend many hours to pray every night. She has never gone to sleep without her daily prayers. And her brothers shouted: „What did God give you? We’re sick and tired of your popes. What does your faith bring you? Our father is the one who feeds you.. why did you go to college, so that you end up in a monastery?”
When she finished college, she ran to the monastery. Her father had looked for her for a long time, found her, beat her and brought her home. She had ran for several times. Each time, she was brought home with force and was beaten awfully. Once, in the evening, before her last departure to the monastery, she cried and prayed endlessly. She did 1000 long bows, cried many tears, asking for enlightenment from the Holy Mother. She fell asleep at dawn. When she woke, she took the little icon with Holy Mother that she received from Father Sofian. She made a cross, kissed the icon and packed her things to leave. She left a letter for Father Sofian to one of her friends. Here it is:
“Father I dreamed Holy Mother’s image. And I saw how the icon became alive and Holy Mother looked at me attentively. I was praying before her and I asked: „What should I do?” And I saw that she watched me with great pain. And I saw tears on Her face. And suddenly, She raised her hands for prayer and a tear from Her eyes fell on my hand. And She, with hands raised, was praying and crying. When Her tear touched me, I woke up. And I decided to leave.”
And she left. On the cross road, following Jesus Christ’s steps.
But her father found her this time, too. When he brought her from the monastery, he beat her very hard. Then, he tore her nun clothes with the scissors and threw them in the dustbin. He snatched her little cross from her neck and yelled at her: „Popes, popes and the church…” Then she fainted away. When she woke, she implored her father: „Please, leave me my icons. I cannot live without them. Please…” And he stepped on them and took them all. Then she said: „All right, you took all, but you can’t take my soul, that is everything.”
From that moment she kept on praying:” Holy Mother help me, do not leave me! My God, Jesus Christ..” When her father understood that he could not turn her away from the ways of the orthodox living, he imagined a devilish plan. He found a few doctors who thought like him and she was given the following diagnosis “paranoid schizophrenia with mystic delirium”. Until the last day of her earthly existence, she was forced to take medication „that would calm her”. She spent her last 2 years in hospitals, under perfusions. Because of the pills, she was almost always unconscious. Her father used to watch over her from the first hour in the morning till evening at 10 – 11 pm, so that she wouldn’t get in touch with faithful people.
The immobilization in bed and the medication given by the psychiatrist paralyzed her almost completely and provoked her intestinal pseudo-obstruction. Driven by these sufferings, she passed to God on Tuesday, April 6th 2004, during the Easter’s last week (the big week). This happened at 10 am. And because her father would have never accepted to call a priest, God arranged that Father Constantine found about her. He got to the hospital at 11 o ‘clock and held the divine service. For the first time, her father was missing, though he was seen in the hospital in the morning….
At her honorable tomb, miracles started to happen.
The first miracle known was a young man’s healing. He had been suffering with intestinal pseudo-obstruction for 8 years, having repeated crises. He was healed on a Wednesday, May 12th 2004. From that moment, the faithful young women who found out about the life and the martyrdoms of their sister, gained even more devotion and spiritual piety for her honoring and remembering. The second miracle is the healing of a student with a vascular disease (2004) and the third is the healing of a young man who came with an appendicitis crisis (2005).
For the prayers of Saint Pious Martyr Daniela, our God Jesus Christ, Son of God, give us strength on the Orthodox way and redeem us all. Amen.
